The Story Behind TRU Hair Salon
TRU Hair Salon was born out of a deep love for both beauty and wellness. As someone who has always been committed to living a healthy, eco-friendly, vegan lifestyle, I recognized a gap in the hair industry when it came to clean, non-toxic, and sustainable products. I wanted to create a space where people could enjoy luxury hair services without compromising their health or the environment. That’s why I founded TRU Hair Salon—to offer a sanctuary for clients and stylists who value a true low-tox environment inside and out.
What makes your salon unique in terms of the services you offer and the products you use?
At TRU, we take a holistic approach to beauty and wellness, which is reflected in everything we do. Our salon has an incredibly calming vibe that immediately puts our clients at ease. Our music sets the tone with our carefully curated vibrationally appropriate playlist from songs around the world. We’re deeply committed to the health and well-being of both our clients and our stylists. Our services go beyond hair care—we offer Reiki healing with our spa-like mask treatments. We also have a signature fragrance we diffuse in the salon that is in our add on ceremonies. This luxury aroma therapy is organic and locally wildcrafted by Rootfoot.
We’re passionate about staff education, offering regular health and wellness classes, advanced training (such as Masters of Balayage), and community events—all completely free for our stylists. We are committed to nurturing their growth and development, ensuring they stay at the forefront of the industry. We teach our team methods for maintaining positive energy while working, which is crucial for providing the best care for clients. Supporting the whole person is at the heart of what we do, from the products we use to our investment in our team’s continuous learning.
How are you supporting the sustainability movement in the salon?
Our focus on sustainability extends to recycling everything we can, including hair, and encouraging upcycling by offering clients used OWAY amber bottles. We also use a color-weighing system to reduce product waste and eco heads shower heads to minimize water consumption.
In line with our sustainability efforts, we have an OWAY refill station at the salon where clients can refill their favorite products and receive 15% off for participating. It’s a small but impactful way we encourage our community to reduce plastic waste and join our eco-conscious efforts.
How do you educate your clients on the benefits of organic or holistic hair care?
Education is at the heart of our approach. We make sure our clients understand the benefits of organic products and how harmful chemicals in conventional hair care can affect both health and the environment. We’re passionate about helping clients achieve beautiful, lasting results without compromising safety or quality. We provide education during appointments, through social media, and via our blog, where we recommend non-toxic products like OWAY and ARETÈ. Our goal is to empower clients to make healthier choices for their hair and overall well-being, even beyond the salon.

It’s tough to choose, but if I had to pick my top three, they would be Arete’s Micro Exfoliating Scalp Mask Treatment, Oway’s Glossy Nectar, and Oway’s Sculpting Mist. The Micro Exfoliating Scalp Mask Treatment is great for a luxurious gentle treatment that promotes a healthy scalp. Glossy Nectar is my go-to for hydration and adds a glossy finish that makes the hair so healthy. The Sculpting Mist is ideal for styling—its buildable and allows the hair to move naturally. These products help me deliver the luxurious results we strive for at TRU.
